OUR STORY Advocates to End Domestic Violence is a private 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. Incorporated in 1981, AEDV has been providing 24-hour-a-day unparalleled services to Carson City and surrounding communities since that time. In 1979, a group of concerned citizens came together to discuss the issues of domestic violence in Carson City and discovered that NO services were available for victims. The lack of crisis intervention, emergency shelter and support programs were preventing victims from accessing critically-needed options as opposed to remaining in abusive relationships. From that meeting grew the network of volunteers that established Advocates to End Domestic Violence and provided the foundation for the intervention and support services provided today.

Advocates to End Domestic Violence (AEDV) is a private, not-for-profit organization located in Carson City, the capital of Nevada. The agency was formed in 1979 when a group of caring volunteers met to discuss the lack of services for victims of domestic violence, and as a result, AEDV was formed. The agency began by providing a crisis hotline, expanded to include a rented two-bedroom apartment for shelter, and over time, grew into a full-service program that operates a 51-bed emergency shelter, and provides a wide range of emergency and long-term services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. Volunteers continue to play a crucial role in AEDV success and the services provided. AEDV services are provided without charge and are confidential and survivor-centered.
